Mary Lucile Collins, affectionately known as “Love,” was born on July 2, 1927 in Greensboro, Alabama to Ms. Gertrude Taylor of Greensboro, Alabama. At an early age, she confessed her belief in Christ and joined Taylor Grove Church of God. Later on in life, she joined Third Street Church of God, where she remained faithful until death.
She attended Hale County Training School and graduated in 1945. She then went to work for Greensboro Packaging Company. She attended the University of Auburn, School of Extension Services for cooking. In return, she taught residents of the Hale County community how to cook.
She was the mother of three children; Willie, Kathy, and Ralph. She later married the love of her life Usell Collins. He has preceded her in death., as well as her mother Gertrude Taylor; her brother, James Taylor, and her son-in- law, Richard Harris.
Her life was well-lived. Her love for the lord showed through her daily. She made friends in. every level of life.
Her smile was contagious, her lively personality kept you on your toes. Her caring and willing character made knowing her an honor. God welcomed home his faithful servant on December 23, 2022 at Hale County Hospital, Greensboro, Alabama at the age of 95.
She will live on in all the hearts that she leaves behind: her sons, Rev. Willie (Mary) Garnett, Tuscaloosa, AL and Ralph Kirksey, August, GA; her daughter, Kathy K. (the late Richard Harris) Harris, Tuscaloosa, AL; 12 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren; one aunt, Sue Hicks; special friends, Mrs. Peterson aka Dot Lou, Jimmie Lewis, and Rosa Nelson. A host of nieces and nephews, numerous beloved cousins, and wealth of dear friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 7 at Bass Tabernacle CME Church in Akron with Washington and Paige Mortuary directing.
