January is School Board Recognition Month, and the Hale County School System is celebrating its board members’ dedication and commitment to the school system and its students.
This year’s School Board Recognition Month theme is Powering the Next Generation, which highlights the impactful work school board members do to power up students to be their communities’ next leaders.
“We love starting the new year by recognizing those who volunteer countless hours to ensure that the next generation is properly charged,” Superintendent Ryans said. “While we recognize our board members in January, we know that their focus on supporting local schoolchildren is yearround.”
School board members work together to establish the framework that best fits their local schools’ needs. Their hard work and dedication to helping our school system achieve new heights do not go unnoticed. Superintendent Ryans said the critical work of school boards is to raise student achievement by:
Creating a vision for what the community wants the school system to be and for making student achievement the top priority;
Establishing standards for what students will be expected to learn and be able to do;
Ensuring progress is measured to be sure the system’s goals are achieved and students are learning at expected levels;
Being accountable for their decisions and actions by continually tracking and reporting results;
Aligning the system’s resources – human and financial – around its improvement goals;
Creating a safe, orderly climate where students can learn and teachers can teach;
Forming partnerships with others in the community to solve common problems; and
Focusing attention on the need for continuous improvement by questioning, refining, and revising issues related to student achievement.
