Magnolia Homemakers win accolades at annual state meeting

The Magnolia Homemakers and Community Leaders met on November 15 at Hale County Extension building. President, Nancy Jennings, presided. Twenty-two people attended. Barbara Kelly and Mary Kate Bell served as hostesses.

The program was provided by Olivia Fuller, Horticulture Agent for ten counties in Alabama. She shared information on “vegetable pollinators.”

Magnolia Homemakers sold boxes of sweet potatoes the previous month to raise money which will provide a $500 college scholarship for next year.

For the month’s craft project members completed a Christmas door hanger.

Members provided entries at Alabama’s Homemakers’ Annual Meeting. Rollanda Cothran won 3rd place for a snowman plaque, 2nd place for a gourd bowl, and 3rd place for a sunflower yard sign. Judy Bonds was awarded 3rd place for a pink Easter box. Nikke Fair received 3rd place for sewing a striped jumper, 2nd place for an embroidered jacket, 2nd place for a handstitched pillowcase, and 3rd place for a hand-made necklace. Anne Bailey was awarded first place for an essay titled “The Book about The Boxcar Children.” Pam Hamilton was awarded 2nd place for “The Eagle, The Mayor, and The Dentist.”
