Ruby Lee White died August 20 at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham at the age of 86.

She was born Nov. 18, 1935 to the late Emma and Williams Webster Rhynes. She received Christ at an early age and joined Shiloh A.M.E. Church.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Sampson White, Sr.; son, Sampson White, Jr.; both parents, Emma and Williams W. Rhynes; and three sisters, Bernice Lucky, Lillie Glass, and Bessie Evans.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda (Charles) White of Greensboro; Velma (Alfred) Lewis of Newborn; five brothers, Willie C. Rhynes of Romulus, Mich., Williams (Mattie) Rhynes, Jr. of Greensboro, Charles (Wanda) Rhynes of Cleveland; Standley (Debbe) Rhynes of Detroit; and Thomas Rhynes of Greensboro; four sisters, Susie (Leo) Collins of Euclid, Ohio, Betty Campbell of Lima, Ohio, and Sarah Harmon and Pearl Rhynes of Detroit; nine grandchildren, Kelvin (Tammy) White and Deon Lewis of Newbern, Derrick (Lateatrius) White and Alfred (Lezvetta) Lewis of Tuscaloosa, Melvin (Chastity) Watkins, Sr. of Japan, Fredrick Patrick, Terance Braggs, and Kelvin Braggs of Greensboro, and Mia (Altjuan) Bradberry of Bessemer; ten great-grandchildren, Sidney White of Greenville, Ta’Niya White and De’Andre White of Tuscaloosa, Fredrick Bradberry and Patrick Bravery of Bessemer, Melvin Watkins, Jr., Jacoby Watkins, and Isaac Watkins of Japan, Diamond Brown and Paris Merritts of Newbern, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 27 at New Pentecostal Church in Greensboro with Bishop Lovetta Long, pastor, the Rev. Jesse White of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa officiating, and Washington and Paige Mortuary directing.
