Dr. Marlon B. Murray is a life-long resident of Tuscaloosa and graduate of Tuscaloosa County High School. He attended Berry College earning a Bachelor’s degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. He earned his Master’s from Jacksonville State University. He also earned his certification in Education Administration and Supervision from the University of Alabama. He acquired the Education Specialist degree from the University of West Alabama in Instructional Leadership. He recently received a Doctorate in Rural Education from the University of West Alabama. He has a keen interest in youth sports and athletics and currently is engaged with them.
Dr. Murray began his professional education career as a Health and Wellness teacher at Coosa High School in Rome, Georgia in August of 1997. Since that time, he has served as a physical education teacher at Lloyd Wood Middle School, a driver’s education teacher at Tuscaloosa County High School, a health teacher at Paul W. Bryant High School, an Assistant Principal/Athletic Director at Northridge High School, and Northside Middle School. In 2014, he assumed the role of Principal of Davis-Emerson Middle School. Dr. Murray is the former Administrator of the Northport Career Tech Annex on the campus of Tuscaloosa County High School.
He is a member of several professional organizations, including National Education Association (NEA), Alabama Education Association (AEA), Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS), Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals (AASSP), Alabama Career Technical Association (ACTA), board member of RiverFall Credit Union, and a charter member of 100 Black Men of West Alabama.
Dr. Murray is married to Lytrice Washington-Murray with three kids Marlei Antionette Murray (23), Indya Christina Joiner (16), and Marlon Chase Murray (10).
