William “Pork Chop” Carter died April 13 at the age of 68. He was born April 22, 1953 to Laura Carter and Leo Walthall. He is preceded in death by four brothers, Joe Lee Carter, Eddie B. Carter, Don Carter, and Billie Carter; and one sister, Sallie Carter. Survivors include three daughters, Charlene Waller, Artisha Waller, and Pamela Carter; a son, Patrick Carter; five sisters, Theresa Carter, Francis Carter, and Sharon Parker, all of Sawyerville; Josephine (Gregory) Cox of Hawthorn, Calif. and Edna Carter of Springfield Gardens, N.Y.; five brothers, Shedrick (Joyce) Carter of Cleveland, Ohio, Theodore Carter and Jessie Carter of Sawyerville, Frank (Brenda) Carter of Northport, and John (Valita) Martin of Tuscaloosa; thirteen grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 23 at the Evans Cemetery in Sawyerville with Pastor Marvin Wiggins officiating and Washington and Paige Mortuary directing.
