Delta Regional Authority will fund projects in Marion

Delta Regional Authority will invest $3,448,973 to boost economic development and foster improvements throughout Alabama communities. The investment will eventually be matched by $9.6 million and will bring an additional $440 million in leveraged private investment (LPI) in the Black Belt.

A total of 13 projects to improve water and sewer systems, transportation, infrastructure, and support entrepreneurship is expected to create 1,091 jobs. In addition to this, it is expected to train 200 individuals and affect over 5,100 families.

Two projects will be coming to Perry County. The first of these projects will be the TekPak Access Road in Marion. The Perry County Commission will use DRA funding to aid in the construction of an industrial access road for TekPak, Inc. and its facility. This investment will create 36 jobs and retain 149 jobs once improvements to the access road are made. The DRA is investing $206,000 to the project which will total $818,100.

The second project will be for Marion Military Institute’s Flight Training Career Development Program. DRA funds will be used by MMI for an airplane with a 3-year plan to train civilian and military pilots. The DRA is investing $135,805 in the program which will total $150,305.

Funding for these projects by the DRA is provided by the State’s Economic Development Assistance Program (SEDAP).
