A Greensboro woman has been charged with setting a fire that damaged a home and two outbuildings on County Road 28 last fall, according to court records.

Cassandra Michelle Green, 46, is charged in Hale County District Court with one count of first-degree arson and two counts of second-degree arson. The charges stem from an Oct. 10, 2025, fire at a residence on County Road 28 in rural Hale County. Green was arrested Jan. 9 and is being held in the Hale County Jail on a $75,000 bond.

According to the criminal complaint, deputies and Greensboro fire units responded to a residential fire at the County Road 28 address around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 10. When they arrived, a double-wide manufactured home was on fire, along with two sheds located roughly 130 feet behind the residence.

The homeowner’s nephew was asleep in a bedroom when the fire started, according to the complaint. He woke to find the residence on fire and escaped through his bedroom window with two dogs. He was later treated at Hale County Hospital for smoke inhalation. The homeowner was not at home when the fires started and told investigators she was in Tuscaloosa at the time.

The complaint states that the homeowner began receiving video alerts from security cameras at her home and that one clip showed the rear of the residence on fire. She told investigators she had outside security camera footage showing a woman walking onto the back porch carrying a bag, pouring something onto the porch, and then igniting it. In the background of the video, the two sheds behind the house were already on fire.

The complaint says the video shows the woman throwing the bag into the fire, then walking around the east end of the residence with a container before disappearing from view. The front porch and the doors of both sheds also appeared to have been set on fire, according to the complaint.

The homeowner identified the woman in the footage as Green, the document states. Investigators wrote that the two women know each other well and that phone records showed Green’s cell phone had been turned off around the time of the fire. Green allegedly refused to speak with investigators when questioned about the fire.

The case has been referred to the State Fire Marshal’s Office for assistance and is assigned to Hale County District Court.

Green is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
