Deadlines approach for Sept. 23 municipal runoff election

Moundville voters will head back to polls to select D-5 councilmember, other area cities also have choices

Municipal voters will head back to the polls on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, for runoff elections across Alabama, including races in Hale and Perry counties.

In Hale County, Moundville voters in District 5 will choose their next city council member in a runoff election. The two candidates facing each other in that election will be Susie Patrick, who led in the initial totals with 24 votes, and Gwendolyn Patrick, who was in second place with 21.

In Marion, voters will decide the race for mayor between Dexter Hinton and Perkins, and the District 2 council seat between Tommy Leon Kennie and Edd Miree. Uniontown voters will also return to the polls to settle contests for mayor and council seats.

Voter registration for the runoff closes on Monday, September 8, 2025. Anyone not registered by that date will be unable to participate in the September election.

Deadlines for absentee voting are also fast approaching. Applications for absentee ballots must be received by mail no later than Friday, September 12, or delivered in person by Thursday, September 18. Absentee ballots returned by hand must arrive at the clerk’s office no later than the close of business on Monday, September 22, while ballots sent by mail must arrive by noon on election day.

Polls will open at 7 a.m. on September 23 and close at 7 p.m. Unofficial results will be announced that evening, with canvassing to follow in the days afterward.
