Funeral services will be held at 4 o’clock this afternoon (Thursday) at the Greensboro Baptist Church for Enoch Napoleon Rose, 54, who died at 8:10 o’- clock Wednesday morning at Hale County Hospital. Mr. Rose, a lifelong resident of Hale County, retired from his work with the Hale County Highway Department when his health began to fail. He had worked with the department for some 23 years. A son of the late Enoch Napoleon Rose and Minnie Elizabeth Beckler Rose, Mr. Rose was born and reared at Sawyerville. NEWS FROM GPS, WEST: The Honor Society had its traditional tapping of new members into the organization recently. This year, there were 27 new members, the largest group ever to be tapped. They were: 12th graders, Rebecca Fondren, Brenda Golden, Vera May, Cynthia Stewart, and Wesley Smith; 11th graders, Memie Colburn, Joe Compton, Gary Spray, Paul Breland, and Graham Bonds; 10th graders, Mary Ellen Colb, Billy Dinwiddie, Margaret Geddie, Betty Jean Harris, Donna Phillips, Jenny Tutwiler, Mary Beth Beste, Steven Cochran, Brenda Mitchell, Judy Mitchell, and Ann Mitchell; ninth graders, Beverly Canter and Carol Davis; eighth graders, Bonnie Fondren, Jackie Bonds, Dina Creel, and Martha Williams. W.R. LaCour, headmaster at Perry Christian School in Marion, has announced honor students who will be speaking at commencement exercises on June 2. Miss Ann Chism, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John P. Chism of Greensboro, and Miss Ann Rankin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.R.Rankin of Faunsdale, will share the valedictory spotlight since both have maintained “straight A’s” throughout high school. Miss Charlotte Tucker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Tucker of Marion, will be honored as salutatorian for the graduating class.
