John Michael “Big Mike” Kynard, of Marion, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at Shelby Baptist Hospital. He was born on Monday, March 5, 1956 to John Lewis and Gladys Montz Kynard.
Mike graduated from Greensboro West High School in 1974. He went to work upon graduation with the Alabama State Highway Department. He later went to work for Asphalt Contractors in Selma, where he worked until retirement. Mike loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a professional archer with Matthews Archery for many years. Mike also loved race car driving. He had his own race car and raced at Holiday Beach Raceway whenever he had the opportunity.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Emma Jean Madison.
He is survived by his Wife of almost 45 years, Lucy; his Son, Michael and his wife Toni. He is also survived by Father-in-Law, H.C. Weaver; Brother-in- Law, Thomas Madison; and Sisters-in-Law: Sue Price, Connie Rhyme, Vicky McPheron; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life was held at Hopewell Baptist Church Family Life Building in Marion, AL, Saturday, February 1, 2025, from 10:30 am until 12:00 pm.
