Electors in Hale will vote on President, Probate Judge along with some other offices

In the upcoming general election, set for Tuesday, Nov. 5, Hale County voters will face a range of important decisions across local, state, and national races.

At the top of the ballot, voters will have multiple options in the presidential race. The Democratic ticket consists of Kamala D. Harris and Tim Walz, while Donald J. Trump and JD Vance represent the Republican Party. Independent candidates include Robert F. Kennedy Jr. with Nicole Shanahan, Chase Oliver with Mike Ter Maat, and Jill Stein with Samson Komlan-LeBeau Kpadenou.

Locally, the position of Hale County Judge of Probate features a contested race among Democrat Arthur L. Crawford Sr., Republican David Parker, and Independent Austin Long III. Collins Pettaway Jr., a Democrat, is running unopposed for Circuit Court Judge, 4th Judicial Circuit, Place No. 1. Timothy A. Evans, also a Democrat, is the sole candidate for District Court Judge, Place No. 1. Additionally, Catrinna Long Perry, a Democrat, is unopposed in her bid for Circuit Clerk of Hale County.

For the Hale County Board of Education, the ballot includes races for District Nos. 4 and 5. In District No. 4, Democrat Chad Payne faces Republican Christina Sansing. In District No. 5, Democrat Susie Patrick is running against Republican Otis “Ray” Grantham Jr.

The County Commission elections include a race in District No. 2 between Democrat Earlean Dussett and Independent Donald “D’Ray” Anderson Jr., while Joe Lee Hamilton Jr., a Democrat, is unopposed in District No. 3.

Several statewide races will also appear on Hale County’s ballot. For the Alabama Supreme Court, Republican candidates are running unopposed for multiple positions: Chris Mc- Cool for Associate Justice, Place 1; Tommy Bryan for Place 2; Will Sellers for Place 3; and Jay Mitchell for Place 4. The Chief Justice race presents a choice between Democrat Greg Griffin and Republican Sarah Stewart. Additionally, voters in Alabama’s 7th Congressional District will choose between Democratic candidate Terri A. Sewell and Republican Robin Litaker.

The ballot includes uncontested races for the Alabama Court of Civil Appeals and Court of Criminal Appeals. Republican candidates Christy Edwards, Chad Hanson, and Terry A. Moore are unopposed for the Court of Civil Appeals, Places 1, 2, and 3, respectively. For the Court of Criminal Appeals, Republican candidates Richard Minor, Rich Anderson, and Bill Cole are running unopposed for Places 1, 2, and 3.

Voters will also decide on the position of President of the Public Service Commission, with Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh, a Republican, running as the only candidate.

Lastly, Hale County voters will consider Statewide Amendment 1, which proposes a change to the Alabama Constitution of 2022. This amendment would allow specific school lands owned by the Franklin County school system, located in Fayette and Walker Counties, to be used exclusively by the Franklin County School System. Any proceeds or interest generated from these lands would go directly to the Franklin County Board of Education. This amendment is introduced under Act 2024-301.
