Sawyerville man arrested on charges of attempted murder, domestic violence following machete attack

Stacy Derral Long, a resident of Sawyerville, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and first-degree domestic violence following a violent incident that occurred on July 13. Long, 44, was taken into custody on July 28, and is currently being held in the Hale County Jail without bond.

According to court documents, Long is accused of striking a male victim multiple times with a machete in the head and hands, causing serious injuries that required intensive care. The attack reportedly took place in Sawyerville, and Long was arrested by a county officer after a warrant was issued.

In addition to the attempted murder charge, Long is also facing a firstdegree domestic violence charge. That complaint, filed on July 29, alleges that Long committed the crime of domestic violence by assaulting the mother of his child. The complaint details that Long struck the victim in the head, causing a cut that resulted in significant blood loss and required medical treatment.

Long has been charged under Alabama Code 13A- 4-2 for attempted murder and Alabama Code 13A-6-130 for first-degree domestic violence.

Long’s case has been assigned to Hale County district court, and he is scheduled for a plea docket on August 20, 2024.
