The 4th Annual Black Belt Birding Festival will kick off on Friday, August 2, with an array of events throughout Greensboro.
During the day, from 9 AM to 2 PM, patrons may visit the Abadir’s Corner Shop for a limited supply of ‘grab-n-go’ eats, baked goods, as well as tea or cold brew coffee. Pita pockets, galettes, and fresh loaves of bread will be available for purchase.
Then, from 5 PM to 8 PM, there will be a Kick-Off Party and Vendor Expo, located in the Ballroom at Project Horseshoe Farm. Live music will be provided by blues musicians Debbie Bond and Radiator Rick, founders of the Alabama Blues Project. Scot Duncan, Alabama Audubon’s Executive Director, will offer a welcoming speech at approximately 6:15 PM, with guests encouraged to explore the vendors, enjoy the music, and avail themselves of the dining options around Greensboro.
Also that evening, High- Water Incorporated will be featuring a special screening in their Cinema Fantastique Summer Film Series with the film, “The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill.” Small snacks as well as Za’atar seasoned popcorn will be available on the lawn of Abadir’s Corner Shop, with attendees encouraged to bring their own refreshments for a picnic-style viewing party.
Saturday, August 3, will see the soft opening of artist Aaron Sanders Head’s new studio space, Sumac Cottage at 1107 South Street. An artist market, alongside a community mural painting (headed by Birmingham artist, Doug Baulos ) and indigo vats provided by Head will be available for visitors and the community to explore. Live music will be provided by both Tim Higgins and C.A. Jones, with Jones playing two sets—one on guitar and one on piano. Other artists featured in the market will be: Abi Brewer; Here a Chick, There a Chick; Merrilee Challiss; Loretta Lynn; Steven Meredith; Crossroads Arts Alliance; Casey Roberts; Dariana Dervis; Simply Making It; Aaron Sanders Head; and Sunheart Metal Works. The market will run from 10 AM to 3 PM.
Also on Saturday, from 9 AM to 2 PM, Abadir’s Corner Shop will be providing small plate lunches, alongside more baked goods for purchase.
