Gordo man dies in one car accident near Tuscaloosa on Saturday

A single-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 5, has claimed the life of a Gordo man. Emmanuel Martinez, 22, was critically injured when the 1996 GMC Sierra he was driving left the roadway, struck a ditch and then a tree. Martinez was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was transported to DCH Regional Medical Center for medical treatment. On Sunday, Aug. 6, Martinez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The crash occurred on Interstate 59 near the 79 mile marker, approximately three miles north of Tuscaloosa, in Tuscaloosa County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
