A Sawyerville man was arrested June 12 on a harassment charge after allegedly threatening to shoot a man who had been hired to repair his refrigerator.

Jerry Clyde Sullivan, 66, was charged with harassment by threat, a Class C misdemeanor under Alabama Code §13A-11-008(A)(2). The charge stems from an incident on May 19, according to court records filed in Hale County District Court.

A criminal complaint filed in the case alleges that Sullivan directed the threat toward the man with the intent to harass, annoy, or alarm, and that the threat would cause a reasonable person to fear for his safety.

As of June 16, Hale County District Court records listed the defendant’s status as in custody, with bond set at $500. A plea hearing is scheduled for July 14.
