The Hale County Lions Club has generously donated $5,000 to support the development of a new Emergency Department at Hale County Hospital — a contribution that will be matched dollar-for-dollar through the Hale County Community Foundation, doubling the impact of the gift.

Through a generous matching initiative administered by the Hale County Community Foundation, an anonymous donor has pledged to match qualifying donations up to $500,000 in support of the hospital. As a result, the Lions Club’s $5,000 donation immediately becomes a $10,000 investment in emergency care for Hale County.

The funds will support plans to construct a modern Emergency Department designed to replace the hospital’s existing emergency facilities and better meet the needs of patients today and in the future.

The new space is intended to improve patient flow, enhance privacy, and provide updated infrastructure to support high-quality emergency care in a rural setting.

Rural hospitals serve as critical access points for emergency and life-saving care, often with limited resources. Investments in updated facilities help ensure that residents can continue to receive care close to home when it matters most.

The Lions Club is a volunteer service organization with chapters around the world dedicated to supporting community needs, public health initiatives, youth programs, and local philanthropy.

Active in Hale County for decades, the Hale County Lions Club has supported vision screenings, scholarships, and local welfare projects, including stewardship of Lions Park and support for the Hale County Animal Shelter.

The decision to contribute the $5,000 was unanimously approved by all Greensboro Lions Club board members, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening healthcare resources in the community.

“We are grateful for the Lions Club’s leadership and generosity,” said Shay Cherry, CEO of Hale County Hospital.
“Their support — especially when paired with this matching opportunity — helps move us closer to ensuring reliable, high-quality emergency care for Hale County families.”

Construction is anticipated to begin in July 2026, with the hospital remaining fully operational throughout the project.

Community leaders hope the Lions Club’s donation and the matching initiative will encourage additional community support.

“Every gift right now has double the impact,” said Holly Crawford Ellis, Director of Communications and Community Advancement. “It’s an incredible opportunity for our community to invest in the future of local emergency care.”
