Hale County Primary Election Set for May 19, 2026
Qualifying has closed, and the ballot is set for the May 19, 2026 primary election in Hale County, when voters from both major parties will choose their nominees for a slate of county offices as well as state and federal races.
Democratic Party Ballot
On the Democratic ballot, Sheriff Michael Hamilton is seeking another term as Hale County Sheriff. Coroner Eric A. Wiggins is also running for re-election, along with Revenue Commissioner Andretta Skipper, who has qualified for another term as Hale County Revenue Commissioner.
Hale County Commission Races
Three seats on the Hale County Commission will appear on the ballot this year:
- District 1: Jonathan Rossell has qualified for the Democratic nomination.
- District 4: A contested Democratic race will feature Charles Patrick and Patti Rhodes, with the winner advancing to the November general election.
Board of Education
The Hale County Board of Education District 1 seat is also up this year. Kaleda Williams-Zanders has qualified for that position on the Democratic ballot.
Hale County Democratic Executive Committee
In addition to county offices, Democratic voters will elect members of the Hale County Democratic Executive Committee:
- District 1
- Female seat: Shirley Alston
- Male seat: Robert L. Alston, Eddie Blocker, and Abraham Patrick
- District 2
- Female seat: Dollie Hudson
- Male seat: Norman Hunter and Willie J. Hudson
- District 3
- Female seats: Lorrie P. Cook and Gay Nell Singleton
- District 4
- Male seat: Kervin Jones
- Female seats: Jacqueline Hoskins and Yolanda Ash-Watkins
Republican Party Ballot
Republican voters will cast their party’s ballots on the same day, choosing nominees in their party’s primaries for the same county offices where Republicans have qualified, alongside state and federal contests.
On the Republican side, four candidates qualified for the Hale County primary ballot:
- Don Wallace, incumbent, will run for Hale County Commission District 1
- Beatrice Nichols has qualified for Hale County Commission District 4
- Brooke Seale McCrory is seeking the Hale County Board of Education District 1 seat
- Kevin McDaniel has qualified to run for Hale County Sheriff
General Election, Runoffs, and Voting Information
Winners in both parties will advance to the Nov. 3, 2026 general election. If no candidate in a given race receives a majority of the vote on May 19, the top two vote-getters will meet in a runoff election set for June 16, 2026.
Sample ballots, precinct information, and details on absentee and in-person voting will be available from the Hale County Probate Office and on the Alabama Secretary of State’s website.
Voters must be registered in Alabama in order to participate in the primary. Residents who need to check their status or update their registration may do so online or by contacting the county Board of Registrars.
