ALEA extends search for person of interest nationwide in Perry County murder investigation

On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Special Agents assigned to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched a homicide investigation at the request of the Perry County Sheriff’s Office.

Jeffery Holifield, 68, of Marion, was found deceased in the 2000 block of Onrow Tubbs Road in Marion, located within Perry County, Alabama.

After further investigation, Anastassja “Anya” or “Tess” Cooper, 32, of Marion, was identified as a person of interest. The State Bureau of Investigation is asking for the public’s assistance in locating Cooper for questioning and is expanding their search nationwide.

Cooper was recently seen in San Mateo, California, and has family connections in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Oregon.

Cooper is described as a white female with brown hair and brown eyes, standing 5’9” and weighing 216 pounds. She may also be in possession of or traveling with a mixed-breed dog named “Banana.”
