On Saturday, December 6, the people of Akron celebrated Christmas on the Square with a festive Grinch-themed event.

Community members picked up scavenger hunt sheets from the Akron Fire Department and got into the holiday spirit with hot chocolate and seasonal snacks provided by the Big Tasty Food Truck. A complimentary Christmas ham was generously donated by the Birt and Tucker Masonic Lodge.

The townspeople enjoyed shopping at local vendors and picked up free children’s books at the Akron Public Library. Children signed up for bicycles with the Hale County Enrichment Society, while people of all ages registered with the OnMed CareStation. The Hale County Extension Office provided free care kits to everyone who registered with the CareStation.

The event was organized by the Town of Akron, Hale County Extension Office, Mayor Chris Rollins, Akron Public Library, Librarian Erica Woods, Chair of the Akron Library Board Dimetra Rollins, and others.
