On Tuesday, November 4, Kathy Gregory with Alta Planning and Design held a focus group at the Hale County Extension Office to discuss plans to expand outdoor recreational activities in the Hale County area.

The morning session was spent on a feasibility study for “Sweet Trails Alabama”, a statewide initiative that aims to form a master trail plan for the entire state of Alabama. The goal is to connect each county in Alabama through this master trail, with a multitude of outdoor activities offered in each place. The goal is to highlight the unique and biodiverse regions spread throughout Alabama.

With Hale County’s proximity to major waterways and an increased interest in birdwatching, thanks to Alabama Audubon’s Black Belt Birding Festival, plans were discussed to bring Greensboro and surrounding areas into the larger plan. Alabama State Senator Bobby Singleton (D-Greensboro) was on hand for the discussions, as well as members of the Hale County Extension and other community members.
