Willie Clara Jeffries, 103, of Greensboro, died Oct. 6, 2025. Born Feb. 7, 1922, to the late Jonas and Ammie Pratcher McCollough, she accepted Christ at Mars Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she later served faithfully as a Sunday School teacher and secretary of the senior mission. As part of her ministry, she fostered 30 children through the Hale County Foster Department Care Agency.
Mrs. Jeffries was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wash Jeffries; and a son, Fred McCollough. Survivors include sons Edward (Ruth) McCollough and Freeman (Yvette) Jeffries; daughters Evelyn Seals, Lucy N. Bailey, Onedia McCollough Hill (Cleveland) and Rose Jeffries Patton; children she reared as her own, Bryan McCollough (Quida), Tywanda McCollough and Stacey Jeffries Miles (Robert); sister-in-law Rose McCollough; and many beloved relatives and friends. She is also remembered with special affection by Curtis May, Lyman May, the late Henry May, Irene Pratcher Banks, Ruby Washington, Kimberly Skipper, Lynn Perry, Ruth Pratcher and Mary Patton. She leaves 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life was held Saturday, Oct. 18, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Mars Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 9974 County Road 16, Greensboro. Pastor Nathaniel Carter is church pastor; the service was officiated by Rev. Dr. Bryan O. McCollough with Sister Shirley Shaw serving as mistress of order.
