Council votes to add more lighting for safety at GRC facility

Members of Greensboro City Council voted to add more outdoor lighting at the Greensboro Recreation Center (GRC) during their October 14 meeting.

Patrons of the GRC are concerned about areas of darkness in the parking lot where slip-and-falls could occur. Councilmember Lewis motioned to contract with Alabama Power for the addition of two outdoor lights to the GRC parking lot. Councilmember Curtis seconded the motion, and it was unanimously carried.

Ordinance 2025-06: ‘an ordinance to establish requirement for the use of public and private utilities within the rights-of-way’ was considered by the Council.

This ordinance will allow fees from future utilities that locate along the fiber optic cable right-of-way. Curtis motioned to accept the ordinance. Councilmember Kyser seconded the motion, and it was unanimously carried.

Diane Lewis, of the Hale County Library, asked the Council to release the 2026 fiscal year allotment of $4,000 to the Library. Curtis motioned to release the allotment, Lewis seconded the motion, and it was unanimously carried.

Street Department Head Aaron Evans asked that the public be made aware of an auction that took place on Saturday, October 18th at the Greensboro City Shop beginning at 9AM.

City vehicles and equipment were offered to the public at auction on that day.
