A Marion man is facing a string of felony charges in Hale County following an investigation into a series of theft-related incidents earlier this year.

According to court records, Anthony Hopkins, 41, of 44 Hain Road, Marion, was arrested October 16 by state authorities and remains in the Hale County Jail. He is charged in multiple cases involving burglary, attempted theft, and receiving stolen property.

Complaints filed by investigator Toby Wade Banks allege that Hopkins unlawfully entered buildings and attempted to steal off-road vehicles in rural Hale County in February and March of 2024. One complaint accuses him of breaking into a camp house on February 17 with intent to commit theft inside.

Another charge, filed separately, accuses him of entering a barn the same day with intent to steal property.

Two additional complaints allege attempted theft of property in the first degree. Investigators say Hopkins tried to steal two all-terrain vehicles in February 2024 by cutting locks and damaging ignitions at a property in Moundville.

A fifth case charges him with receiving stolen property in the first degree, alleging that he knowingly possessed a 2006 Honda TRX 500 four-wheeler reported stolen from another Hale County resident in March 2024.

The combined cases were electronically filed October 17 in Hale County District Court and assigned to District Judge Timothy A. Evans. Hopkins is scheduled for a plea docket on November 17 at 9:00 a.m.

Bond was set at $5,000 in each of the two burglary cases, $5,000 on each of the two attempted theft cases, and $15,000 on the receiving stolen property case, for a total of $35,000.

Each burglary and attempted theft count is classified as a Class C felony under the Alabama Criminal Code, while receiving stolen property in the first degree is a Class B felony.
