Mary Faddis Sanders, known to many as “Bay,” was born on February 1, 1940, in Lock 5, Hale County, Alabama, to the late Robert and Bertha Faddis. She passed away on September 10, 2025.
At an early age, Mrs. Sanders accepted Christ as her Savior. She first joined Mars Hill Baptist Church in Greensboro before transferring her membership to Springfield Baptist Church in Sawyerville, where she faithfully worshiped and sang in the choir until her health declined.
She graduated from Hale County Training School in Greensboro. In 1967, she was united in marriage to the late Charlie Sanders, with whom she shared a loving and enduring partnership. Mrs. Sanders worked for many years at Plastic, Inc., where she formed lasting friendships before retiring in the 1990s. She found joy in her family, whom she raised with wisdom, unwavering faith, and abundant love. Her home was known as a haven of warmth, where her gentle spirit shone brightly. She loved preparing meals for those she cared for, nourishing both body and soul.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Bertha Faddis; her husband, Charlie Sanders; her son, Faddis Andre Sanders; and two grandchildren, Porsha Thomas and Antoinette Thomas.
Mrs. Sanders leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Bernice (Eddie) Thomas of Moundville; four sons, Chester (LaShonda) Faddis of Moundville, Floyd Faddis and Steve Sanders of Greensboro, and Cleveland (Janice) Faddis of Birmingham; 18 grandchildren, including Chesorica Faddis, RaShida Myers, Eddie (Tuxina) Thomas Jr., Kentrell Thomas, DeVonis Travis, and Cleondra’ (Lanique) Cooper; and 22 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sistersin- law, Vera Mae Sanders and Evelyn Sanders; a special friend, Willie Joe Bell; four cousins, Glen Harris, Addie Lee Cannon, Erma Nell Faddis, and Evelyn Faddis; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Bass Tabernacle C.M.E. Church with Pastor Willie D. Garnett and Pastor Benjamin Cook officiating.
