The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will hold a public involvement meeting this week in Greensboro to present plans for a resurfacing and reconfiguration project along Alabama Highway 14.

The come-and-go style meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 28, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Greensboro City Hall, located at 1101 Main Street. Attendees will be able to view exhibits and speak with ALDOT representatives about the proposed work, which is intended to improve traffic flow and safety.

The project would resurface the section of Highway 14 stretching from west of Holbrook Place to SR-61 and would include a “road diet” along a portion of the route. Under the plan, the existing four-lane section between Main Street and Tuscaloosa Street would be reconfigured into two travel lanes with a two-way center left turn lane.

According to the Federal Highway Administration, studies show that a threelane road can handle roughly the same traffic volume as a four-lane undivided road, often more smoothly.
