Margaret Prisoc Kynard, went to be with her Lord on July 26, 2025, at the age of 80. Surrounded by her family, she passed peacefully, wrapped in the love of the family she so fiercely cherished.
Born and raised in Greensboro, Alabama, Margaret was the heart of our family — the constant light, the quiet strength, and the warm embrace we could always count on. She was a true Southern lady: elegant, humble, and full of charm, with a wit as quick as her cornbread was golden.
She built a beautiful life with her husband of nearly 62 years, Evan, and together they shared decades of faith, laughter, and unconditional love. Together, they raised a close-knit family anchored in Sunday dinners, hard work, and devotion to one another. Margaret is survived by her loving children Angela Smelley (Tony) and Deborah Crews (Shane), her adoring grandchildren MacKenzie Smelley, Jon Evan Smelley, Ella Crews, and Andrew Crews, her brother Ronnie Prisoc (Dianne) and a host of dear friends — all of whom she loved with her whole heart.
Her garden was her haven — often compared to something out of Southern Home magazine. She poured her heart into every bloom, from fragrant roses to elegant tulips, and woe to the grandchild who dared disturb her prized plants. Margaret had a gifted hand not only in the garden, but in needle and thread. Known lovingly as “MeMe” to her grandchildren and “Puddin” to her friends, she delighted in cross stitching, needlepoint, smocking, and French heirloom sewing, often crafting the most exquisite garments for the little ones she loved so dearly.
As her grandchildren grew, so did her pride in them. Whether it was cheering from the bleachers or bragging to friends, she was their loudest supporter. Those memories lit up her heart like nothing else.
And if you knew Margaret well, you surely knew her love for IL Divo — whose concerts she attended with joy and whose music filled everywhere she went that had a CD player. Their harmonies brought her peace and joy, a fitting soundtrack to a life lived with such grace.
She was a faithful member of Rhodes Chapel Baptist Church, where she sang hymns with reverence, played the piano, and made sure the sanctuary was filled with beautiful flowers every Sunday. Whether she was preparing meals for the bereaved, sewing quilts for new babies, hand stitching clothes for her grandchildren, or working as the Administrator at the then Greensboro Nursing Home, Margaret’s presence was felt deeply by her community.
A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held on Thursday, July 31st, 2025 at Rhodes Chapel Baptist Church, Greensboro, Alabama with visitation at 1:30 pm followed by the service at 2:30 pm with Reverend Albert Lyles officiating. Interment immediately following at the church cemetery. Pallbearers will include Shane Crews, Andrew Crews, Tony Smelley, Jon Evan Smelley, Johnny Kynard, and Michael Kynard.
