A Greensboro man has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting in Uniontown earlier this month.
Javontae Tykeem Smith, 23, was arrested on June 18 and formally charged with one count of intentional murder and one count of reckless endangerment. The charges stem from a June 14 shooting that left Antonio Terrell Morgan, 21, dead in the front yard of Apartment Building 26 on Cobb Street in Uniontown.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Perry County District Court, investigators allege that Smith fired multiple gunshots toward Morgan, striking him in the chest and causing his death. The reckless endangerment charge arises from the presence of other individuals in the vicinity at the time of the shooting, including a six-month-old baby.
Smith was taken into custody by the Perry County Sheriff’s Department shortly after the incident. In a press release issued following the arrest, the District Attorney’s office indicated that the shooting may have stemmed from a personal dispute involving a mutual love interest.
Court records show that Smith was booked into the Perry County Jail on June 18. He remained in custody as of Wednesday. A preliminary hearing date had not yet been set as of press time.
