Veterans and their families are invited to gather in Moundville next weekend for an outdoor Meet & Greet Session focused on building connections and sharing resources—including a major new grant initiative designed to support veteran well-being across West Alabama.
The event will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Moundville Town Square, directly across from Moundville Bank. Hosted by Shelton State Community College, the gathering is open to veterans, their spouses, dependents, and organizations that support or work with veterans.
Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy an afternoon of conversation and community on the square.
In addition to local networking, the event will also introduce the HERO PATH=s Grant, a new initiative whose name stands for Hope, Empowerment, Resources, Opportunities, Practice, Attitude, Training, and Health = Success. The program is designed to improve mental health care and access to essential support services for veterans and their families throughout the region.
Former Akron mayor and retired U.S. Navy veteran Jonathan Rossell, who now works with Shelton State, emphasized the importance of local engagement. “This program plays a vital role in strengthening the support systems that serve our veterans, ensuring they have the encouragement and resources they need to thrive.”
