Greensboro City Council met Tuesday night, April 8, and passed an ordnance allowing the sale of a 0.01 acre of land owned by the city to the State of Alabama for the sum of $500. The parcel of land is located on Highway 14 near the Alabama Department of Transportation office.
The land’s assessed value is $18.00, but the state pays a base amount of at least $500 for any land acquisition. In this case, the state is offering an additional $500 incentive if the sale is completed within thirty days.
Police Chief Willie Lewis reported that a man driving a 4-wheeler evaded police pursuit and escaped near the intersection of Highways 25 and 69 earlier on Tuesday. Lewis reminded those present that it is illegal to operate 4- wheelers on any city, county, state, or federal road, and encouraged members of the public to spread that information.
Aaron Evans of the city’s Streets and Sanitation Department reported that the city’s International Harvester garbage truck has a rusted-out bed and is leaking rainwater.
The Council passed a measure to take bids for the removal of an old and rotted oak tree in Lyons Park.
Councilmember Katerrial Lewis thanked Chief Lewis and his department for their quick response to an altercation in the Eastridge Apartment complex over the weekend. She said the altercation between reportedly arose due to claims of bullying made between the children of the parties. Lewis urged citizens to teach their children not to bully others, and asked Chief Lewis for an increased patrol presence in the area.
The next meeting of Greensboro City Council is scheduled for Tuesday, April 22 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
