A fire over the weekend destroyed Roebuck Landing, the longtime restaurant and store on the banks of the Black Warrior River in Hale County. The blaze is believed to have been electrical in origin. No injuries were reported. Located just outside Akron, Roebuck Landing was a local institution. Known for food and live music, it served as a meeting place for generations of rivergoers. The building, which housed both a grill and grocery, was fully engulfed when fire crews from multiple departments—including Akron, Greensboro, Sawyerville, and Stewart-Havana—responded to the scene. The Hale County Sheriff’s Department also assisted. In a message posted on social media, the owners expressed their gratitude for the outpouring of community support and the quick action of first responders. “Thanking God that no one was injured,” the post read. The owners also noted that their food truck was saved thanks to quick action and might still be used going forward.
