First responders, medical professionals, and emergency management officials from across West Alabama participated in a full-scale emergency response drill in Greensboro on March 13. The exercise, organized by Hale County EMA in partnership with Tuscaloosa County EMA, along with numerous local fire departments, law enforcement, and healthcare providers, tested emergency response capabilities in a simulated tornado disaster.

The drill, conducted on Main Street in Greensboro, focused on interagency coordination, disaster recovery efforts, and real-time response to a mass casualty event. Participants included teams from Hale County Hospital, Hale County Hospital Clinic, Home Health, and Moundville Medical Associates, alongside law enforcement, EMS personnel, and multiple fire departments.

As part of the exercise, medical teams practiced triage procedures in a mobile hospital unit stationed near Main Street. The drill provided hands-on experience for healthcare professionals responding to large-scale emergencies, allowing them to refine procedures for rapid patient assessment and treatment in the field.

Volunteers from the local community also played an essential role, acting as victims in the simulated disaster scenario. Their participation helped responders assess how well their emergency protocols would function under realistic conditions.

The exercise came just days before a severe storm system produced a tornado in Hale and Perry counties, highlighting the importance of preparedness efforts.
