It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John C. Whaley, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who went home to be with the Lord on January 25, 2025, at the age of 91. Johnny was born on January 3, 1934, to Cecil and Mable Livingston Whaley. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Flora Whaley, and his only son, Russell Whaley. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Fred Whaley, Janie Wright, and Evelyn Whaley.

John is survived by his treasured granddaughter, Tiffany Whaley; his sister, Maude Ryder of Demopolis, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends.

A man of strong faith, Johnny lived a life rooted in love for his family, community, and the Lord. He served honorably in the Army National Guard, and his dedication to his country was matched only by his commitment to his family. He retired from Alabama Power’s Greene County Steam Plant after a long and fulfilling career. John also owned and operated Johnny’s Trailer Park for over 50 years, a place where he touched many lives and forged lasting relationships until it was sold in 2023. He was known for his love of cracking pecans, his welcoming spirit, and his joy in meeting new people.

John’s caring heart extended beyond his family and work. He will be deeply missed by his special friends James and Barbara Acker, Thomas and Patricia Moore, Charles Moore, Ray Duncan, Keith Fikes, Terry Thomas, Amos Hill, Margaret Arrington, Lola Harper, and Tina Mitchell.

His family would like to express their deepest gratitude to John’s devoted caretakers: Shay Fondren Cherry, Crystal Lee, Juanita Lee, Vonshalai Jackson, Erica Smith, Kimberly Lee, Amanda Kaylor, and the staff at Hale County Hospital and Southern Care Hospice of Demopolis, whose care and compassion brought John comfort in his final days.

A graveside service to honor John’s life was held on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 10am at the Greensboro Cemetery with Brother Steve Vernon officiating with Magnolia Chapel South directing. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Hale County Community Foundation, PO Box 297, Greensboro, AL 36744, for the Hale County Hospital ER Renovation project, in recognition of the care John received during his lifetime. John’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. His faith, kindness, and generosity will never be forgotten. May he rest in peace, and may his family and friends find comfort in the knowledge that he is now in the arms of his Savior.
