Help may be on the horizon for Hale County honmeowners who want to protect their homes from severe weather. Habitat Tuscaloosa, in partnership with Strengthen Alabama Homes, is offering an opportunity for homeowners in Pickens, Greene, Hale, and Tuscaloosa counties to apply for a grant of up to $10,000 to install a FORTIFIED™ Roof. This program aims to enhance resilience against high winds, hurricanes, hailstorms, and severe thunderstorms.
Since its launch in 2020, the program has replaced over 475 roofs in the service area. Interested homeowners must meet specific qualifications, including owning a home on a permanent foundation, using the property as their primary residence, having a current homeowner’s insurance policy with wind coverage, and meeting income guidelines. While there is no cost to apply, a $350 fee is required if funding is accepted. If the roof replacement cost exceeds $10,000, the homeowner must cover the overage or decline the grant.
Applications can be accessed online at www.habitattuscaloosa.org/roof-repair, where program guidelines and details are available. This initiative reflects Habitat Tuscaloosa’s mission to ensure that everyone has a decent place to live. For more information, homeowners are encouraged to contact Habitat Tuscaloosa directly.
