A Perry County grand jury has indicted Zavis Tra’Von Smith, 25, of Greensboro, on multiple felony charges related to a May 19, 2023, shooting incident in Uniontown. Smith faces two counts of attempted murder, three counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied building or vehicle, and one count of reckless endangerment, according to court documents filed earlier this month.

The charges stem from allegations that Smith discharged a firearm at the Union Food Mart on Washington Street and at a vehicle in the parking lot. The indictment specifies that Smith’s actions endangered both the store’s patrons, the occupants of the vehicle, and people in a dwelling nearby. Two individuals were reportedly targeted in the shooting, which police say took place near a gas pump at the store.

Authorities allege that Smith’s actions were both intentional and reckless, leading to the series of charges. The case was initially brought before the grand jury on November 29, 2023, resulting in the true bill indictment. Following his arrest on January 10, Smith remains in custody at the Perry County Jail, with bail set at $216,000. Court records show he is scheduled for arraignment on February 20.
