James Edward “J.J.” Jones, born on May 23, 1960, in Greensboro, Alabama, to McKinley Jones, Sr., and Melvia Gilmore Jones, passed away on October 18, 2024, at the Henry Ford St. John Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.
James was preceded in death by his father, McKinley Jones, Sr., and two brothers, McKinley Jones, Jr., and Willie Edward Jones.
At an early age, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Mars Hill Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.E. Patton. After graduating from Sunshine High School, he relocated to Detroit, Michigan, where he worked as a mechanic on race cars, RVs, motorcycles, and more. He remained in Detroit until his passing.
James was a kind-hearted man who touched the lives of many. Known for his loving nature, he greeted everyone with a warm heart and never met a stranger. His faith in God and his love for family and friends left a lasting impact on those around him.
He is survived by his devoted friend, Shirek Pittman of Detroit, Michigan; two sons, Algernon Holland of Phoenix, Arizona, and Antwan Bowers of Detroit, Michigan; and two grandsons, Amare Edward Holland and Amir Ethan Holland of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by his loving mother, Melvia Gilmore Jones of Greensboro, Alabama; five sisters, Joyce (Charlie) Green, Shirley Jean Maiden, Floree Jones, and Cynthia (Lorenzo) Webb, all of Greensboro, Alabama, and Margaret (Donald) King of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He leaves behind two aunts, Martha Gilmore of Forkland, Alabama, and Mary Robinson Jefferson of Chicago, Illinois, along with two uncles, Henry Conner of Greensboro, Alabama, and Joe (Francis) Garrett of Pensacola, Florida. His special cousin, Doc Rainer, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, will cherish his memory.
Funeral services for Bro. James Edward Jones were held on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. at Mars Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro, Alabama, with Pastor Nathaniel Carter officiating and Sister Kimberly Skipper serving as Mistress of Order.
