Police say intentionally-set fire caused extensive damage, dispaced eight Greensboro families who lived in the apartment building
Greensboro Police have arrested a 46-year-old man in connection with an early Friday morning arson at the Magnolia Village apartment complex on Blount Street in Greensboro. Ira Lewis Oliver, a resident of Greensboro, was taken into custody on October 11, 2024, and charged with first-degree arson. According to reports, Oliver allegedly set the fire around 1:00 a.m. after a dispute with his sister, who lived in the apartment building and had informed him he could no longer stay with her.
The blaze endangered several families, displacing eight of them from their homes. The Greensboro Police Department, assisted by the Alabama Fire Marshal’s Office, conducted an initial investigation, which was wrapped up within seven hours when they identified Oliver as the suspect, according to Sgt. Devoris Travis of the Greensboro Police. Police say the investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges against Oliver may be forthcoming. Greensboro Volunteer Fire Department and other area volunteer fire departments responded to assist with extinguishing the fire.
