William Howard Lewis, affectionately known as “Don” to family and friends, peacefully and unexpectedly went home to be with the Lord on the morning of August 12, 2024, at the age of 67. He was born on March 8, 1957, to the late Cleophus Lewis and Mary Williams Lewis in Greensboro, Alabama. He received his primary education in the Greensboro Public School System. Upon his graduation from Greensboro High School East in 1975, he joined the United States Army.

William later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Strayer University in Alexandria, Virginia. He retired from the Army at the rank of Sergeant First Class after 20 years of service, with his last duty assignment being at The Pentagon. He continued his service to the United States Government as a civilian in Human Resources Management, eventually becoming a Management Analyst at The Pentagon.

William was predeceased by his parents, Cleophus and Mary Lewis, as well as his brothers, Ronnie, Kelvin, and Eugene Lewis. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Myrtis Lewis, of Clinton, Maryland, whom he cherished and loved dearly. His devotion and dedication to Myrtis were unmatched.

He is also survived by his brothers, Cleophus Lewis of Antelope, California, Shedrick Lewis (Tamara) of Huntsville, Alabama, and Dedrick Lewis (Keshia) of Stafford, Virginia; and four sisters, Diane Agnew (Carlier) of Newbern, Alabama, Clover Littleton (Wesley) of Puyallup, Washington, Kesha Kaylor of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Dana Holifield of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. His sisters-in-law, Velma Lewis and Clothilda Allen, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, will also cherish his memory.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Union Grove Baptist Church, located at 182 Swift Street, Greensboro, Alabama. Reverend Carlier Agnew officiated the service. William was laid to rest at Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
