Services will be Aug. 24 for Jo Stringfellow, longtime Greensboro resident

Jo Stringfellow passed away on August 6, 2024. She was a resident at Diversicare of Marion, previously known as the Perry County Nursing Home. Family members invite you to join them in a celebration of her life, which will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Greensboro Bible Methodist Church, 2004 South St, Greensboro, Al 36744, starting at 2:00, with Steve Vernon presiding. After the service, a time of sharing will be held in the Fellowship Hall of the Greensboro Presbyterian Church.

She was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and raised off 10 Street, near the airport. She received her teaching degree from Montevallo and later earned her master’s degree in library science from the University of Alabama.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Mildred Whisonant, her husbands, Alvin Stringfellow, Ralph Lazenby, Harvey Damron, and her son, Henry Stringfellow.

Jo is survived by brothers Jim Whisonant (Susan) and John Whisonant (Connie), son Rob (Robby) Stringfellow, grandson Benji Stringfellow (Andrea), granddaughter Abby, and many cousins.

Jo taught at Southern Academy from 1965 to 1975, teaching second grade and other classes as needed. She was the librarian for several years and the Cheerleader Sponsor for several seasons. She attended Greensboro Baptist Church for years and helped with its library organization. She was the Treasurer and adult Sunday School teacher at the Bible Methodist Church for several years.

Jo had a deep love for people and was a shining example of an indomitable spirit. She enjoyed working in stained glass, and a representation of her work can be seen over the door of the Greensboro Library on Main Street. She also had a passion for painting, and the number of small paintings she created is unknown.
