Mr. Wyman Bernard ‘Spote’ Knighton was born in Graves, Georgia, to the late Mr. Freddie and Mrs. Annie Knighton on October 3, 1960. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age and joined the Gaines Chapel AME Church in Graves, Georgia, where he was a faithful member and served in the choir. Wyman was educated in the public schools of Terrell County and was a 1978 graduate of Terrell High School, Dawson, Georgia. After high school, he furthered his education at Atlanta Technical College in Atlanta, Georgia, and received a diploma in Auto Collision Repair.

Wyman was joined in Holy Matrimony to Ms. Bobbie Skipper, and to this union, he reared two children as his own. He faithfully worked as a Mental Health Specialist for 23 years at West Alabama Mental Health Center in Demopolis, Alabama.

The Master yearns for us to be home, so on July 21, 2024, at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham, Alabama, God called, and Wyman answered his call. In addition to his parents, Wyman was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife of over 20 years, Bobbie Skipper Knighton; both paternal and maternal grandparents: Mr. Wallace Harrell and Ms. Izola Knighton; Mr. James Wilbourn and Ms. B. Elizabeth Davis; four brothers: Kennedy Woodson, Carlus, Marvin, and Patrick Knighton; his father and mother-in-law: Mr. Matthew and Mrs. Mary Lee Skipper.

A man who was loved by EVERYONE, Wyman lived his life to the fullest and always brought life to the party. His infectious spirit will live on in the hearts and souls of his loved ones: his son, Deronta Skipper of Atlanta, Georgia; his daughter, Lashanae Skipper Bishop (Steve) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; eight sisters: Yvonne King (Jesse); Nellie Knighton, Martha Crawford (Hayward), Phyllis Toomer, all of Dawson, Georgia; Patricia Knighton of Shreveport, Louisiana, LaVerna Knighton of Austell, Georgia, Sandra Jordon of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Stephanie Jackson (Charles) of Macon, Georgia; one brother, Dwyane Toomer (O’Keya) of Leesburg, Georgia; three sistersin- law: Brenda Skipper-Dowdell of San Jose, California, Gladys Woodson of Moultrie, Georgia, and Stacia Knighton of Dawson, Georgia; four brothers-in-law: Robert Massey and Timothy Jones, both of Jersey City, New Jersey, Lavel Massie and Larry Skipper of Greensboro, Alabama; a great-aunt, Ella Mae Graddy of Shellman, Georgia, and Master Sergeant (Retired) Mary Albritten of Mahboula, Kuwait; one uncle, Willie Morns of Atlanta, Georgia; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

The celebration of Mr. Wyman Bernard Knighton’s life was held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Washington and Paige Chapel, 17745 Hwy 25 North, Greensboro, AL 36744. Reverend Marvin Wiggins officiated the service.
