Hale County Extension Office held an EFNEP graduation ceremony on Tuesday, July 30 at their offices in Greensboro. Congratulations are in order for Brittany Lee and Katelynn Patton who completed the series of six lessons from the “Today’s Mom” curriculum taught by Franchesca Hambright, EFNEP Nutrition Educator.
The goal of the “Today’s Mom” curriculum is to promote a healthy birth weight for babies among expectant mothers. Low birthweight qualifies for any baby born weighing less than 5 pounds and 8 ounces. Low birthweight can lead to serious health conditions in children, alongside difficulty eating, gaining weight, and fighting infections. These health problems can also follow the baby later in life to cause more long-term health issues.
The Hale County Extension Office extended their gratitude to elected officials in Hale County who provided car seats to the program to promote increased safety when in transit with children. The office also thanked The Lighthouse Women’s Center for their donations of handmade blankets, burp cloths, as well as other caretaking items. Julia Walker also provided the program with a donation of new diapers and wipes.
