Press Release: Immediate Release – July 2024

Marion, Alabama, June 25, 2024,— the National Park Service issued a Notification of Award confirming that the Lincolnite Club, Inc. was the recipient of a $750,000.00 grant. Funding was provided through the Historic Preservation Fund (HPF), administered by the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior. Grant funds will be used to continue phase III rehabilitation of the Historic Lincoln Normal School Gymnasium. Repairs include steel structural members, repoint and clean brick, repair the concrete floor, improve drainage, repair exterior doors and prepare the building for Phase IV Building Systems replacement.

This grant is a major step toward repurposing the Gymnasium as a Multi-Purpose Community Center, highlighting the history and struggle to achieve voting and civil rights in the City of Marion, Perry County Alabama.

The Perry County Board of Education is seeking applicants for the position of: School Bus Mechanic

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma supplemented by gas or diesel mechanic experience.
  • Possess or obtain a Class “B” CDL with “P” and “S” Endorsements
  • Possess or obtain valid Alabama School Bus Driver Certificate
  • Satisfactory background investigation
  • Pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test and participate in the system’s random drug/alcohol testing program.
  • Possess or obtain Alabama School Bus Mechanic Certification
  • Alabama Administrative Code 290-2-4-06 Mechanic Certification. A written test and a safety test shall be administered by State Department of Education personnel ot local mechanics who perform safety inspections on school buses.
  1. The requirements for certification as a school bus mechanic shall be as follows:

a) Completion of a certified auto mechanic’s apprenticeship: or
b) Written proof of at least five years’ experience as an auto or truck mechanic; or
c) Written proof of three consecutive years’ experience as a mechanic’s helper ni a school bus shop maintaining buses for pupil transportation.

  1. Any individual who meets one of the above qualifications or a combination of the qualifications approved by the director of State transportation and is hired as a school bus mechanic must within 6 months pass the school bus written test and safety test administered by State transportation personnel and each year thereafter must demonstrate to the State Inspector that he (or she) still maintains the skill, as wel as the mental and physical capabilities, ot perform al the tasks necessary to assure the safe maintenance of school buses.
  2. The testing is not purposed ot test mechanic skills but to test the individual mechanic’s knowledge and performance ni braking system, exhaust system, steering mechanism, and signal system, etc.

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform basic trouble-shooting duties and repairs on buses and other school district vehicles such as vans, trucks, tractors, including repairs on clutch and transmission: perform upholstery and welding tasks as needed.
  • Perform preventative maintenance as needed.
  • Inspects and diagnoses vehicles to ensure they meet State standards; prepare buses for annual inspection.
  • Responds to vehicles breakdowns; repairs vehicles on site when possible or takes corrective action.
  • Acts as lead person in the physical maintenance of vehicles.
  • Substitute drive on route fi needed.
  • Performs other duties as necessary such as cleaning vehicles and shop and fixing small equipment for the district.

Performs other duties as may be assigned by the Transportation Supervisor or Superintendent

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Regularly lifts parts up ot 100 pounds; ability to work in confined spaces for lengthy period of time; repeated turning/twisting motions with al joints and waist; repeated push/pull on fingers; hands wrists, shoulders, elbows and back’ ability ot stand ni one location for up to one hour while working on equipment; climbing up and down on bus hoods and ladders; reaching and working with hands over head; repeated movements ot and from the floor; standing and walking on concrete for up ot 8 hours.

Default having been made under the terms of that certain mortgage executed by Kenneth E. Roy and Monica M.
