The funeral service for Gregory Cannon was held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Greenleaf Missionary Baptist Church, located at 13584 AL Highway 25, Greensboro, Alabama 36744.

Gregory Cannon, 52, achieved eternal victory on the morning of July 3, 2024. Gregory was born on May 14, 1972, in Greensboro, Alabama, to Ned and Mary Cannon. He was raised by his parents in a godly home and turned his life over to Christ at a young age. He was raised in Greensboro and attended Greensboro High School. Later, he relocated to Atlanta, Georgia, and declared it home until his recent transition.

Gregory is survived by his parents, Ned and Mary Cannon of Greensboro, Alabama; his four children: Deiondra (Devonte) Tuggle of Athens, Georgia, Gregory Cannon Jr. of Athens, Georgia, Samaria Cannon of North Carolina, and Aerron Cannon of Villa Rica, Georgia. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Londyn, Dae’quan, McKendree, McKhylen, Nolan, Rylan, and Jaxon; his grandmother Bertha Grice; brothers Dennis, Christopher, Leroy, and Rodney Cannon; sisters Christine, Jayla, and Mary L. Cannon, all of Greensboro, Alabama; sister Gladys (Johnathan) Williams of Marion, Alabama; brother Barry (Sharae) Warren of Cleveland, Ohio; and a long-time friend, Brian Cosby of Atlanta, Georgia. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, family, and friends.

Gregory had an amazing career as a professional boxing and physical fitness coach. He was affectionately known as OCdaGreat, Coach Cannon, or just Coach. Although he embarked on other career paths, he was well known for his ability and skill to change and improve the lives of his boxers and fitness trainees. He was outgoing, well known, and loved by many, with an undeniable ability to make anyone he came in contact with smile. He also loved music, dancing, and video games.

Gregory gave new meaning to the word “fighter.” He never complained, smiled, held his fist up, and never backed down from his opponent. No matter how difficult, he fought every round of this fight without fail. He will forever be remembered as “The People’s Champ.”
