Voters in Perry County are preparing for a significant change as they head to the polls for the primary elections on March 5.

For the first time in over a decade, the seat for the Probate Judge of Perry County will be open due to the retirement of the incumbent Judge Eldora Anderson. The race to fill this position is between two former colleagues with deep roots in local law enforcement. Carlton Hogue, a pastor and former Police Chief of the City of Marion, is running against Roy Fikes, a long-serving Perry County Sheriff’s Deputy. Both candidates have a history of working together as Perry County Sheriff’s Deputies.

Further down the ballot, voters will decide on other county positions. For the Perry County Commission District No. 4, the candidates are Barbara D. Hudson and Cedric D. Hudson. In District No. 5, Carlton “Carl” Lewis and Ron Miller are competing for the County Commission seat. Incumbent Commissioner was disqualified due to failure to file certain campaign paperwork before the required deadline.

For the Perry County Board of Education, the District No. 1 seat has Kimberly Cosby-Walter and Eluis Kittrell Sr. contending for the position, while Brian Moore and Cheryll L. Thomas are the candidates for District No. 2.
