Anderson Smith Jr., born on August 11, 1963, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Anderson Smith, embraced his faith in Christ at an early age and became a member of Reynolds Chapel AME Church in Newbern, Alabama. A graduate of Westside High School in Marion, Alabama, he pursued further education at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He departed this life on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring.
On June 23, 1990, he entered into holy matrimony with Michelle Richardson. This union was blessed with two children, Anderson Richardson and Devante Smith. Mr. Anderson responded to the divine call, returning home to be present with the Lord. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anderson and Ludie Smith, and one sister, Carolyn Robertson. Anderson Jr. leaves behind cherished memories, survived by his devoted wife (who later joined him in the presence of the Lord on January 22, 2024). Together, they are remembered by two sons, Anderson (Anna) Richardson and Devante Smith, and four beloved grandchildren: Gabrielle, Jaiden, Nathanael, and Anderson, all residing in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
Surviving him are four brothers: William (Carrie) Knox, David (Minnette) Smith, Ray Smith, and Donald Smith, all of Newbern, Alabama, and two sisters: Mary Long and Naomi Knox, both of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. He is also remembered by a host of aunts, uncles, in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special friend, Jessie Ward, who stood by his side until the end.
