Michael Jerome Hill was born on July 1, 1956 to the late Andrew Hill Sr. and the late Frances Garland Hill. He died Nov. 13 at the age of 66. He gave his life to Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Horeb Missionary Baptist Church in Newbern, Alabama.

Michael, affectionately known as “Mack” was educated in the Hale County School System and was a 1974 graduate of Sunshine High School.

After graduating high school, he went on to further his education at Stillman College. Then later transferred to Jackson State University in Jackson, Mississippi, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology.

Michael was a beloved educator for over 30 years, serving in various school systems in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia. Michael is also a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated. Michael had unwavering faith in God and was very well versed in the Holy Bible. He was a member of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Demopolis, where he served as a Sunday school teacher.

Michael was preceded in death by his mother and father, and eight siblings; Booker T. “Book” Washington, Leonard “Bat” Strother, Wyona “Moot” Rhone, Sam Hill, Andrew “June” Hill Jr., James “Sonny” Hill, Swarner Hill, and Bertha Hill.

Michael leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Kimberly (Darryle) Evans of Greensboro, Alabama and Alicia Francine Hill of Birmingham, Alabama; one son Michael Mc- Queen Hill of Birmingham, Alabama; three granddaughters Zakiya and Mykayla Sample of Greensboro, Alabama and Indya Evans of Greensboro, Alabama; former wife and friend Annie Griffin Hill; three sisters, Sadie Lee of Glenmora, Louisiana, Polly (Earl) Woods of Irvington, Alabama; and Shirley (Will) Jones of Birmingham, Alabama; a niece/sister Frances (James) Witherspoon of Birmingham, Alabama; a nephew/brother Richard Hill of Uniontown, Alabama; 3 three sisters-in-law, Ella Strother of McCalla, Alabama; Eula Hill of Newbern, Alabama; Ernestine Hill of Harvey, Illinois; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 19 at First Baptist Church Newbern with Father Manuel Williams, C.R., officiating and Sister Linda Travis Fields as mistress of ceremonies. Washington and Paige Mortuary directed.
