C.A. Fredd, director of the Tuscaloosa State Trade School, will present the baccalaureate message at Greensboro Public School, East, at 3 o’clock Sunday afternoon, May 21. Dr. Fredd holds several degrees and has a wealth of experience as a speaker and educator. He has spoken on commencement programs and other occasions for many of the high schools and colleges of the state. For 18 consecutive years, Fredd served as principal of the Greensboro Public School, East – formerly known as the Hale County Training School. He feels it is an honor to be invited to his native hometown as the featured speaker.
Jenkins Bryant, Jr., principal of the Sunshine High School, has announced the selection of the school’s students who have been chosen as members of the society of Outstanding American High School Students, the country’s leading high school honorary. The students honored are: Bertha Hunt, Diana Garrett, Clara Woodfin, Charles Beard, Velma Lewis, Rose M. May, and Frank Lyles.
Kenneth Ellis won first place and Raymond McAlpine, second, in a recent electrical contest held in Greensboro. Ellis received a $5 cash award and McAlpine, $4. They are shown above with their winning entries. Ellis’ was on replacing a three-way switch, and McAlpine’s was on installing a four-way switch for convenience and efficiency. Others taking part in the contest, and receiving awards of $3 each were Leonard Bryant and Charlie Long.
Randall Cub, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Curb of Greensboro received high honors during the annual “Honors Day” last Tuesday at the University of Montevallo. He received an honor scholarship for the next academic year; was recipient of the Eta Sigma Phi Award which goes to the member of the sophomore class who has maintained an outstanding average; and received the highest honors recognition for the sophomore class.
