Sallie Ellen Hill died April 11 at the age of 84. She was born July 3, 1937 in Greensboro to Sadie and Monroe Hill. She accepted Christ at an early age and later moved to Holt. With her aunt and uncle, she attended Morning Star Baptist Church, later becoming a member of Faith in Action Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Alvin Garrett. She later joined Hightown Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Marvin D. Cherry, where she faithfully drove the church van, helped with the senior ministry, and served on the usher board until her health began to fail. She worked for Partlow State School and Hospital until retiring in 1985. She is preceded in death by her parents, Sadie and Monroe Hill; two sons, Monroe Hill Leggett and David Hill; a daughter, Sandra Hill McGee; a son in-law, Earnest McGee; and a granddaughter, Koneitia Jones. Survivors include four sons, Ronnie (Vickie) Hill, Barry (Rose) Hill, and Wayne Hill of Tuscaloosa and Larry Hill of Sawyerville; a daughter, Melinda (Jimmy) Green; daughter-in-law, Virginia Hill of Tuscaloosa; 25 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two nieces, Rosetta Magwood and Mary Farmer of Columbus, Ohio; a nephew, Tyrone Hill of Columbus, Ohio; and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends who loved her dearly. Funeral services were held Saturday, April 23 at Hightown Church of God in Northport with Pastor Marvin D. Cherry officiating and Washington and Paige Mortuary directing.
