We are excited at the Newbern Library with some of the fun things we have going on. As a result of an LSTA grant we are happy to announce we are now in Overdrive. We are a part of the Camellia Net Digital Library (eBooks) Our patrons can browse and check out books in the LIBBY app and in KINDLE. You will need the eight-digit number on your library card. If you do not have a card or have lost it, you can contact the library for additional information.
We received a grant from the American Library Association through their “ Libraries Transforming Communities” program, this grant was used to buy books about and by African American authors and poets. We have a broad selection of classics and new books, both fiction and nonfiction, children, and adults. We have new biographies on John Lewis, Tyler Perry, Will Smith, Cicely Tyson, and Tina Turner, as well as books by classic African American authors such as James Baldwin and W.E.B. DuBois. Our children’s section now contains several books giving a child’s view of many historic and significant moments in Black American history.
Thanks to a private donation we have been able to purchase some classic children’s books. We now have The Mike Lupica Home Team Collection, the Pony Pals Collection, My Side of the Mountain Trilogy and some Zach and Zoe Mysteries.
Using a grant from the Daniel Foundation, we were able to purchase additional Hotspots and tablets. These devices will be available for check-out by our patrons. For more information, please call or come by the library.
Our collection is growing, but so is our involvement in the community. We want to thank all of you who attended our Weaving Demonstration, the Irving Painting Presentation, and the Spring Garden Workshop. We are currently planning our Summer Reading Kickoff for June 10 and 11, 2022. We will have a visit from the McWane Center, the Hale County Extension Service and a really major surprise for our patrons interested in robotics and technology. We are preparing many fun activities for under the tent on those two days, so be sure to follow us on Facebook and in the Watchman and plan to be a part of this
